During the 1998 Linares chess tournament Shirov played black against future FIDE World Champion Veselin Topalov and won by means of an incredible move that is placed number one in John Emms' book "The Most Amazing Chess Moves of All Time" and was described by GM\Nigel Short as follows "It was perhaps one of the greatest moves I have seen in my life"
