GM\ Peter Svidler Deservedly Won The World Chess Cup 2011

GM\Peter Svidler secured a draw in the last game with the white pieces against his rival and friend GM\Alexander Grischuk to clinch the title of the World Chess Cup 2011 also GM\Vasily Ivanchuk was able to beat his compatriot GM\Ruslan Ponomariov to take the bronze medal and advance to play in the next Chess World Championship cycle .

The Russians Are Coming : GM\ Grischuk Will Face GM\Svidler In The Finals Of The World Chess Cup 2011



GM\Alexander Grischuk from Russia won the rapid game (10 minutes) against the Ukrainian GM\Vassily Ivanchuk to proceed to the finals of the World Chess Cup 2011 to face his Russian friend GM\Peter Svidler -who was Grischuk' second during the candidates 2011- and who advanced to the finals after beating the Ukrainian GM\Ruslan Ponomariov on Friday the 15th of September at the Ugorian Chess Academy in Khanty-Mansiysk .(128) players from all over the world participated in this prestigious tournament from (46) countries competing over a prize fund of US $1.6 million .

IM\Aly Yasseen Sensationally Won Alexandria International Chess Open 2011

Egyptian chess veteran IM\Aly Yasseen (2324 Elo) -who is now 61 years old- sensationally won Alexandria International Chess Open 2011 for the first time in his chess career with an incredible score 8 points out of 9 games (+7-0=2)
He won a brilliant game against IM\Mohsen Elgabry (2331 Elo) in round 8 then played with care in round 9 against Saiid Abdel Naby (2323 Elo) to secure a draw and the title.

Round 7 : IM\Aly Yasseen Beats Nagy Mekki and deservedly Leads Alexandria International Chess Open 2011

IM\Aly Yasseen (2324 Elo) was able to beat Nagy Mekki's (2282 Elo) Sicilian Defense to take the lead alone with 6.5 points from 7 rounds .On board (2)FM\Hany Sameeh (2244 Elo) drew with the black pieces with Mohamed Ibrahim (2151 Elo) while on board (3) Tarek Hassan (2228 Elo) won a beautiful game against FM\Salah Yousry (2342 Elo).

After 6 Rounds :Nagy Mekki Leads Alexandria International Chess Open 2011 With A Perfect Score 6 Points !

Nagi Mekki (2282) had the power of good luck in round 6 to beat Tarek Hassan (2228) -with the white pieces-in a very complicated wild game when black lost on time in a completely winning position ; while IM\Aly Yasseen (2324) won his game against Mohamed Hamdy Abdou (2139) to face the leader Nagi Mekki on board (1) in the 7th round .

Alexandria International Chess Open Tournament 2011 : Round 4

On board (1) FM\Moheb Ameir (2192) drew his game with IM\Mohsen Elgabry (2331) to score 3.5 points each ,while on board (2) Saiid Abdel Naby (2323) won his game against Nabil Rashed (2158) to take the lead with 4 points and also was joined by IM\Abdul Hameed El Arousy (2310) who won his game against Holi Ali Moawia Ahmed (2182) on board 3 to score 4 points  also Nagy Mekki (2282) won his game against Hany Sayed (2154) to join the tournament leaders with Tarek Ahmed Hassan (2228) who scord 4 points by beating Alaa Hasanin (2138) .

A Huge Success For The 17th Alexandria International Chess Open Tournament 2011

The 17th Alexandria International Chess Open 2011 finally came back to life after 9 years of stop - the last tournament took place back in 2002- with a great boost ; the tournament -a 9 rounds Swiss event-which takes place under the auspice of the Egyptian Chess Federation and Alexandria Chess Region at The National Foundation For Family And Community Development in Alexandria from 5\9 to 11\9 attracted 231 players - 3 players from Yemen and 8 players from Sudan ;also 4 IM and 5 FM and 1 WFM players compete in the tournament .
After 3 rounds 18 players lead the tournament with 3 points .The tournament chief responsible is Dr.Essam Hamouda , the tournament director is Eng.Medhat Moheb and the chief arbiter is I.A Mr.\Yeheya Mosalem and pairing responsible is I.A Mr.Ahmed Yossef .
