 Anatoly Yevgenyevich Karpov (Russian: Анатолий Евгеньевич Карпов Anatolij Evgen'evič Karpov; May 23, 1951 ) is a Soviet / Russian chess Grandmaster and former World Champion. He was the official world champion from 1975 to 1985 when he was defeated by Garry Kasparov. He played three matches against Kasparov for the title from 1986 to 1990, before becoming Fide World Champion once again after Kasparov broke away from FIDE in 1993. He held the title until 1999, when he resigned his title in protest against FIDE's new world championship rules. For his decades-long standing among the world's elite, Karpov is considered one of the greatest players of all time.His tournament successes include over 160 first-place finishes. He had a peak Elo rating of 2780, and his 90 total months at world number one is second all time behind only Garry Kasparov since the inception of the FIDE ranking list in 1971.Since 2005, he has been a member of the Public Chamber of Russia. After one of the hottest chess presidential elections ever Mr.Kirsan Ilyumzhinov {Kirsan Nikolayevich Ilyumzhinov (Russian: Кирса́н Никола́евич Илюмжи́нов) (born April 5, 1962, in Elista)who is a Kalmyk multi-millionaire businessman and politician and also is the President of the Republic of Kalmykia of the Russian Federation} has been re-elected as president of Fide (he won 95 votes against 55 votes to his rival the 12th World Chess Champion GM\Anatoly Karpov .Mr.Kirsan Ilyumzhinov will be heading FIDE for one more term until 2014.Mr.Kirsan has offered GM\Karpov the position of Vice President.The Fide Presidential Board include:Deputy President - Mr. Georgios Makropoulos and Vice President - Mr. Lewis Ncube ,Vice President - Mrs. Beatriz Marinello and General Secretary - Mr. Ignatius Leong and Treasurer - Mr. Nigel Freeman.

After the end of the official celebration of the honorable guests , a historical game took place between Engineer\Farag Amer -playing white -against the legendary World Chess Champion GM\Anatoly Karpov who had the black pieces.The opening was a Queen's Pawn game that ended peacefully after 4 moves after a draw offer proposed by Mr.Hussein Nafady -Chairman of the Egyptian Chess Federation.

The honorable personalities and guests took their seats on a well decorated platform.In my speech of welcome I said "This is a historical moment in SCCA history ...today we are proud and honored to to have the legendary 12th World Chess Champion the chess king GM\Anatoly Karpov who is not only known to be one of the best chess players in the history of the game ,or of his genius chess skills or masterpiece ,or being known as a positive positional chess grandmaster who has millions of fans all around the world but also known for his great personality as a human being ,integrity and kindness and modesty...".The World Champion expressed his happiness of being in Smouha Club and also about Kapov's chess schools in Egypt and of his future chess plans to encourage chess and the publicity of the game.Engineer\Farag Amer welcomed the World Chess Champion and all the honorable guests and said that he used to follow the games of GM\Karpov and followed his achievements and accomplishments during the past years.
Mr.Hussein Nafady said that this is the third visit of GM\Karpov to Egypt and the World Champion is considered to be a friend to all the Egyptian People.Dr\Amur in his speech spoke about the role of encouraging cultural ,sportive, and business issues between Russia and the middle east.

The legendary 12th World Chess Champion GM\Anatoly Karpov arrived at Smouha Club on Sunday the 4th of July at exactly 10:30 p.m accompanied by Mr.Hussein Nafady-chairman of the Egyptian Chess Federation-and the businessman Dr.Amur D. Kanchaveli -Dr. of Economical Sciences and Official representative in the Kingdom of Morocco- with his wife and Dr.Saher Al-Khateeb -Official representative of Kad-M Association-and the chess Grandmaster\Alexander -Assistant of GM\Karpov-The honorable guests were received by the well known Engineer\Farag Amer -Chairman Of Smouha Club and member of the senate-and members of board of Smouha Club ;at the Chirman's hall in the Tennis Stadium then all of the honorable personalities went to SCCA in the VIP hall.

The world Champion was received by a huge crowd -mainly members of SCCA and their Families-and many fans who saluted him warmly.GM\Anatoly karpov followed shortly some of SCCA students who showed their chess skills while playing blitz chess games.

The legendary 12th World chess champion Grandmaster\Anatoly Karpov will visit SCCA (Smouha Club Chess Academy) on Sunday the 4th of July during his visit to Egypt for opening Karpov's schools of chess .The world chess champion has 2 schools which carry his name in the Arabic world the first one in Syria and the other in Morocco.

The Legendary's World Chess Champion GM\Anatoly Karpov Visit To Egypt

The legendary 12th world chess champion GM\Anatoly Karpov visited Egypt on 23rd of December 2009 to represent the Russian industry in the Russian Industrial Exhibition.The world champion gave a simultaneous display against 16 young Egyptian talents among them were :Yomna Khaled and Omar Khaled (from SCCA) who played fine games.The final score was +15=1-0 in favor of the World Champion ;only FM\Andrew Wagdy and Miss\ Fayrouza Mohamed members of the Egyptian national team scored a draw.The match took place in Helioplis Club under the auspice of Mr.Hussein Nafady Chairman of the Egyptian Chess Federation who signed a protocol by the first letters with the world champion to name 2 chess schools after GM\Karpov -one in Alexandria and the other in Cairo-
