A Tribute To The Legendary First British Grandmaster\Tony Miles

Anthony John Miles (born 23 April 1955 in Edgbaston, Birmingham, England; died 12 November 2001 in Harborne, Birmingham) was an English chess Grandmaster.Miles was born in Edgbaston, a suburb of Birmingham. He learned the game of chess early in life and made good progress nationally, taking the titles of British under-14 Champion and under-21 Champion in 1968 and 1971, respectively.

In 1973, Miles won the silver medal at the World Junior Chess Championship at Teesside, his first important event against international competition. Both he and compatriot Michael Stean defeated the tournament winner Alexander Beliavsky, but were unable to match the Soviet player's ruthlessness in dispatching lesser opponents. Miles went on to win this prestigious title the following year in Manila, while an undergraduate of the University of Sheffield.
Taking the decision to pursue the game professionally, Miles did not complete his studies, but in 1975, was awarded an MA by the University for his chess achievements.In 1976, Miles became the first UK-born, 'over-the-board' chess Grandmaster, narrowly beating Raymond Keene to the accolade.Miles had meanwhile matured into a world class player and he won games against high calibre opponents, such as former World Chess Champions Vasily Smyslov, Mikhail Tal, and Boris Spassky.

In 1980 at the European Team Championship in Skara, he beat reigning World Champion Anatoly Karpov with black, using the extremely unorthodox opening 1. e4 a6!?, the St. George Defence. (It is often said that Miles learned this line from offbeat openings enthusiast Michael Basman, though in his book Play the St. George, Basman asserts there is no truth to this.) A Tribute To The "Magician From Riga" The Legendary Late World Chess Champion Mikhail Tal

Mikhail Tal (Latvian: Mihails Tāls; Михаил Нехемьевич Таль, Michail Nechem'evič Tal, [mʲixʌˈiɫ nʲɪˈxɛmʲɪvʲit͡ɕ ˈtal]; sometimes transliterated Mihails Tals or Mihail Tal; November 9, 1936 – June 28, 1992) was a Soviet–Latvian chess player, a Grandmaster, and the eighth World Chess Champion.

He was often called "Misha", a diminutive for Mikhail, and "The magician from Riga" for his daring combinatorial style. Both The Mammoth Book of the World's Greatest Chess Games (Burgess, Nunn & Emms 2004) and Modern Chess Brilliancies (Evans 1970) include more games by Tal than any other player. Tal was also a highly-regarded chess writer; his professional career was that of a chess journalist.

The Mikhail Tal Memorial is held in Moscow each year since 2006 to honour his memory.

GM\Sergei Tiviakov (2650 ELO) Deservedly Won Panama 1st Chess Open 2011

  

Dutch GM\Sergei Tiviakov deservedly won the first Panama Chess Open that took place from 3-7 November 2011 at the  Hall Portobello Atlapa Convention Center in Panama City . 132 players from many  countries (11 GMs,15 IMs ,11 FMs ,6 CMs ,5 WGMs ,7 WIMs ,1 WFM and 2 WCMs ) participated in the 9 round Swiss event . The time control was Fischer's (90 min and an increment of 30 sec from move 1 to the entire game . The first prize is 2000 $ while the second took 1300 $ and the third 1000 $. The Cuban GM\Walter Arencibia won the second place -by tiebreaks-after scoring 7 points while the Cuban     GM\Aramis Alfarez came third ,GM\Manuel Perez came 4th and the Egyptian rising star IM\Samy Shoker came fifth with 7 points

IM\Aly Yasseen Will Represent Egypt And Africa In The 21st World Senior Chess Championship 2011 In Croatia

IM\Aly Yasseen will participate in the 21st World Senior Chess Championship that will take place in Opatija , Croatia from November 14 (arrival of the participants) until November 27,2011 (day of departure) .

The tournament is under the auspice of : Chess club "Rijeka", Blaza Polica 2, 51000 Rijeka, Croatia in agreement with Croatian Chess Federation, Trg Kresimira Cosica 11,  10000 Zagreb,the Mountain-litoral County, the City of Rijeka and the City of Opatija.

The 21st World senior chess championship for men and women is open to all players representing the FIDE Chess Federations, regardless of their title or rating, providing that the men are older than 60 and women 50 years of age .

International Chess Player\Osama Zayan (2232 Elo) And FM\Moheb Ameir (2192 Elo) -equally first-Won El Sharqia Second International Chess Tournament -by scoring 7.5 points- that took place from 22\10\2011 to 31\10\2011 at El Zagazig -which is a town in Lower Egypt Situated in the eastern part of the Nile delta, it is the capital of the governorate of Sharqia-in The Youth And Sports Club located inside El Zaqaziq stadium under the auspice of the Egyptian Chess Federation and El Sharqia and El Qanah Chess region .The main sponsor of the tournament was Teba Cola Company .The tournament director was Mr.Hamed Mansour ; the chief arbiter was I.A\Wagdy Soliman and I.A\Hassan Khaled was responsible for the pairing. 
The tournament attracted 109 players -3 IMs ; 4 FMs and 2 WFMs and 1 WCM-.IM\Abdul Hameed El Arousy (2310 Elo) came third with 7 points while IM\Mohsen Elgabry (2331) came 4th and A K Abdelrahman (2189 Elo)came fifth .

A Magnificent Video : The Legendary Former World Chess Champion Vladimir Kramnik Played A Blitz Game Against A Robot !

 For the first time in history former world chess champion Vladimir Kramnik played a blitz game against an industrial robot dubbed the Chess Terminator created by Mr.Konstantin Kosteniuk  .
 The incredible robot can play against 3 opponents simultaneously .The game took place at the

 opening ceremony of the The 60th Russian Women's Championship in Moscow; November, 2010 . The game ended in a draw but Terminator was unable to shake hands with GM\Kramnik who offered a draw because the robot did not not really "see" the board, but had a sensor board to recognize the pieces .

The Chinese Star GM Zhao Xue Deservedly Won FIDE Women's Grand Prix At Nachlik

GM\Zhao Xue won easily the third Women's Grand Prix 2011-2012 by scoring 9.5 points out of 11 games with an incredible Elo performance (2882) and an increase of 42 points to her current rate (2497) Elo ; her compatriot WGM\Ju Wenjun -who defeated GM\Zhao in the final round -came second with 7 points .The third stage of FIDE Women's Grand Prix cycle 2011-2012 was staged from 8th to 23rd of October in Nalchik, the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria, in the Hotel Sindika .

IM Ekaterina Kovalevskaya and GM Victoria Cmilyte from Lithuania came in the third and fourth places while GM Kateryna Lahno came fifth .

Former World Chess Champion U-20 And Egypt's Top Chess Player GM\Ahmed Adly Played A Simultaneous In SCCA

On Friday the 7th of October and under the banner of peace, love and tolerance former World Chess Champion U-20 and Egypt's top chess player GM\Ahmed Adly played a Chess simultaneous in SCCA (Smouha Club Chess Academy) against 32 players; most of them are SCCA students and with the participation of many players from Bibliotheca Alexandrina chess club who are trained by I.A Mr\Ahmed Yousef .Dr\Mohamed Magy Brekah -Sports advisor to the members of board -and the Colonel \Ahmed Amre -Smouha Security General Manager - attended the event .The simultaneous lasted for more than 3 hours and the final result was ( +31-1=0 ) in favor for the super grand master .GM\Ahmed lost only one game to the very talented Laila Rashed -member of Smouha Women Chess team and the daughter of the international player Mr.Nabil Rashed member of Smouha Men Chess team - in that game GM\Ahmed showed the ethics of a young gentleman and a real chess champion ;when he reached a lost position against Laila he refused gently her offer to draw the game but instead he encouraged her to continue playing to have self confidence and win which happened a few moves later .GM\Ahmed Adly then made a spectacular show when he played against 2 players -whom he chose from his opponents in the simultaneous (Laila Rashed and Yousef Ashraf)- simultaneously and blindfolded in a 15 minutes game ! The super GM showed his skills and impressively won the 2 games in a great style .
